A Brief Comment on Christian View on Money

My heart is anxious after listening to some Christian teachings on money and wealth. They implicitly taught that every Christian should pursue wealth in order to do God’s will such as helping the poor, giving donations to churches, and directing people toward God. I would argue against this opinion. Let’s be honest that if we gain 5 million rupiah, we’ll use it first for our own needs and, then, for others if there’s some money left. People would put their needs (or wants) as their priority. Unfortunately, most of the time one’s needs/wants are never ending. So, at the end of the day it’s only a part of one’s assets which is devoted to others while majority of the prosperity is for his/her own enjoyment. Therefore, it seems unwise using the reason to do God’s will as a justification to chase prosperity.

*I don’t mean that our enjoyment is definitely not God’s will…
